650 gravel bike bound for Houston, Tx.

I have been very busy this year-it might set a record if fact......but I have not been to busy to build something a little different now and then. This is one of those-a disc brake 650 gravel bike-kind of like a CX frame but built for much longer events. The front fork was made to the same spec as an Enve GRD fork so that the owner can switch out the steel fork if he wants to save about a pound.
It is going to be an interesting build with a generator hub up front and mostly a Shimano Ultegra road group with the R685 hydraulic brakes. Shimano disc brakes are my favorite-at least when I can get them ! Demand seems to be making the supply a bit short. They are worth the wait, though.

aluminum 29er single speed frame for Vermont

Seems like a long time since I have built one of these. What is cool is that I found some Easton Elite NOS tubing that would not be suitable for road of CX but was perfect for this frame. It isn't very light at 4 lb. 7 oz. but it will take 2.5 " tires and be really bomb-proof.
The head tube will accommodate a tapered steerer-pretty much all you can get in a shock fork any more. The slider inserts will be for a 142x12 thru-axle. These inserts were just there for the fixturing process.
This was a really fun build and the frame will take any abuse the rider throws at it.

CX-adventure frame, fork and stem for L.A. area

Very lavenrdar, this one. The frame is steel, my tig S.L. big tire model with a painted-to-match Enve fork and a shop-built steel stem. This should be a sturdy rig to ride the mountains  north of Los Angeles and get above the smog line.

Mark the date

Yes, for the first time since 2011 there will be a bicycle swap meet at Bruce Gordon cycles in the parking lot. I'll be there along with a host of Nor-Cal's most notorious frame builders. Even if you aren't looking to score some low-priced bicycle goods you can check out Bruce's display of bikes in his shop-a collection unequalled in any custom frame builder shop in the US.
I'll be doing an inventory reduction so there will be lots of my stuff that I really don't want to take home. Insult me with low offers....I will not be offended !  Come for a good time on Sat. July 23rd.

Team CX bike still available

O.K., so the people have spoken......or more accurately, haven't spoken. This 49 cm c/t/c seat tube and 54 cm c/t/c team CX bike has been completely rebuilt and has anew set of unridden wheels that I built . The parts are a mix of 105 and Ultegra 10 spd. but the hubs are Ultegra 6800 and will take an 11 spd. cassette if the owner wants to modernize the drive train. You can have this bike for $ 1,600.00 and the money will go directly to the CX team for the upcoming season. Call me at the shop weekdays at 831-429-8010 if you want to check it out. Nearly all the equipment is new so it is ready to shred.

Small disc brake CX frame for bay area rider

The woman who is getting this frame was a major hammer on the road circuit in the '80's. She's probably still quite the hammer and now she will have a new CX bike to hammer on. The tubing is the Dedaccai aluminum I have been using for the last couple of years and the bike will have thru-axles front and rear , most likely an Enve fork. I'm not the one building it up but I'm sure that it will be a quality build from the Bicycle Outfitter in Los Altos, Calif.

In case you want to see more frequent updates I suggest that you check out the Rock Lobster facebook page. I have been updating there more frequently than this blog as facebook seems to have a much bigger audience. I will not abandon the blog, though.......don't worry about that !

Rock Lobster exhibit at Patagonia store

The new and the old. The new is the Team 7005 CX-DS in the window-only ridden a few times so far.
The old is John's 1991 single speed 26" MTB with nearly all original equipment. Back then, single speeding was a sport only practiced by eccentrics and oddballs.
